How We Helped a Mississauga Office Worker Fix Long-Term Back Pain

The Problem

A 35-year-old office worker in Mississauga had lower back pain for more than two years. She sat at her desk for 8 – 10 hours every day. Sitting for so long made her back hurt more and more.

Soon, simple things became painful. Sitting at work, standing up, and even driving to and from work were uncomfortable.

She tried pain medicine, light stretching, and short breaks during the day. These helped for a little while, but the pain always came back. This kind of back pain is common in office workers and usually happens because of poor posture, weak muscles, and too much sitting.

Our Treatment Plan

She joined a 6-week physiotherapy program at our Lakeshore & Port Credit Mississauga clinic. She came twice a week. Her plan was made just for her needs.

Full Body Check:

We checked her posture and movement. We found that her shoulders leaned forward, her core muscles were weak, her hip muscles were tight, and her lower back could not bend properly (about 15° less than normal).

Exercise Program:

She learned easy core exercises, gentle stretches for her hips and back, and movements that help with daily activities.

Hands-On Therapy:

Our physiotherapist used gentle hands-on treatment to relax tight muscles and reduce stiffness in her spine.

Workstation Setup Help:

We showed her how to set up her chair, desk, and keyboard the right way. She also learned when to stand up and move during the workday.

Daily Movement Training:

As she got stronger, we added exercises that copied everyday movements. This helped her feel safe and confident while moving.

The Results After 6 Weeks

By the end of the program, she felt a big difference:

  • Back pain dropped from 8/10 to 2/10.
  • Her lower back movement improved by 20°.
  • Her core muscles became stronger.
  • She could sit longer without pain.
  • Work and daily travel became much easier.

What She Said

  • “I can sit at my desk for hours without pain now.”
  • “The exercises were easy, and I felt better every week.”
  • “I feel more confident moving at work and during my commute.”

Tips to Prevent Back Pain at Home

To keep her back healthy, she was advised to:

  • Do simple core exercises every day.
  • Take short movement breaks while working.
  • Use a proper chair, desk, monitor, and keyboard setup.
  • Stretch her hips and lower back to stay flexible.
